Assassin’s Creed Origins, as the name suggests, is about taking on the role of an assassin and unravelling the plots and mysteries of ancient Egypt. But to truly get into the shoes of the assassin Bayek, you will need to know how to assassinate in Assassin’s Creed Origins. It’s not immediately obvious, especially when you first start the game, but you can use the iconic hidden blade to take enemies down.

How to Assassinate in Assassin’s Creed Origins

When you first begin your journey through Egypt in Assassin’s Creed Origins, you will only be able to perform non-lethal takedowns of your enemies. To do this, you must be hidden from view – either crouching in tall grass, above or below your target, or sneaking up behind them.

If you are close enough to the enemy you wish to assassinate, an on-screen prompt will inform you that it can be done. When playing on Xbox One, you will need to press the Y button to assassinate the enemy, and on PlayStation 4, you will need to press Triangle. However, as mentioned, these are non-lethal, so if you want to kill them, you must slash them with your weapon or shoot them with an arrow.

Non-lethal takedowns aren’t the only means of dispatching enemies. As you progress through the campaign, you will be given the classic Assassin’s Creed hidden blade weapon. Once you have this weapon, you can begin assassinating enemies using the same method as before – this time they’ll die instead of writhing around on the ground.

It’s worth mentioning that trying to assassinate an enemy that is a higher level than you won’t always succeed, so you will need to upgrade your hidden blade to deal more damage. This can be done from the Gear menu, provided you have enough resources.

While you can’t assassinate enemies in Assassin’s Creed Origins at the start of the game, with enough time put into the main storyline, you’ll be sneaking around and assassinating your enemies with the hidden blade in no time!

Now that you know how to assassinate in Assassin’s Creed Origins, take some time to collect the fire sword and perhaps find all the tombs.
