Video Capture Support Coming To Shovel Knight On Switch

Yacht Club's 8-bit throwback platformer will soon join the short list of games that support Switch video capture.

A lot of Switch players were excited to hear that Nintendo had finally implemented support for video capture on the Nintendo Switch through one of the system's most recent firmware upgrades. Such is a popular feature on other home consoles, so it makes sense that fans would look for similar functions with the Switch. However, for whatever reason, Nintendo decided not to make video capture support universal; instead, developers have to opt-in to the function by developing their own patches. This is the route being taken by Yacht Club Games, who recently revealed via Twitter that Switch video capture support would be landing alongside the game's upcoming King of Cards update.

Video recording on Switch will be supported in SK's next update, most likely with King of Cards next year.

Fans of Shovel Knight will no doubt have already heard about King of Cards — it's the last Shovel Knight expansion being included as part of the Treasure Trove saga, following the exploits of the game's most gilded member of the Order of No Quarter, King Knight himself. The King of Cards update will refresh the game's play style much in the same vein as other past updates, like Plague of Shadows and Specter of Torment have done in the past, and it's expected to release sometime in 2018.

It's worth once again clarifying that King of Cards will be available to all owners of Shovel Knight, not just those who opted to buy the special Treasure Trove edition. Even players who grabbed an early physical copy of Shovel Knight will be able to download the game's latest content, and once King of Cards releases next year, Shovel Knight players on all major home consoles will also be able to record and share some of their favorite moments through captured video. Just don't expect Switch video clips to be very long, as the system is still currently limited to recording 30 second videos.
