This year's Capcom Cup is set to take place in less than two weeks, but the culmination of the competitive Street Fighter V season may have undergone a seismic shift. The tournament will likely carry on without defending Capcom Cup champion Du "NuckleDu" Dang.

Dang did not give a specific reason for his upcoming absence, but the heavy implication is that he is taking time off due to personal reasons. His sponsor, Team Liquid, has expressed its support on Twitter.

Dang had finished the Capcom Pro Tour global leaderboard in third place. He was only behind Victor "Punk" Woodley and Hajime "Tokido" Taniguchi, the Evo runner-up and winner.

The Capcom Cup bracket has not been revealed and is expected to be finalized in the next week.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
