A penny for DNF... I dunno... still seems like too much.

Duke Nukem Forever was a dumb, fun game that got a bad reputation because it was never going to live up to the hype. It also has one of the best shotguns.

Yeah I can't truly judge, I never played the game.

Well then. It does get shat on but it is great fun, especially for that price.

It also contains some hideously ugly content, and I'm not talking about art assets or game mechanics as those were both adequate, especially after the four weapon patch.

However, back when I played it in late 2011 there was a specific point (when you are forced, as they block the only path, to kill the twins to progress amid their begging and declarations of losing their worth) where I exited the game and gave serious thought as to if I actually wanted to continue playing something like that.

            That shit was just gross.

I'm not sure that continuing was the correct thing to do, but I did until I got frustrated drowning in water which I guess is right before the end, so whatever.

Outside of some very unfortunate moments it was an alright shooter, however I found it more fascinating to examine the game as if it were an artifact. You can practically see the strata of development cycles and trends buried in it.

Ha, I was about to make this same post. In what world should that ever be listed on a "Best" list of any kind?

Duke3d.exe World Tour is down to $6.79, which puts it in the ballpark of what I'd be willing to kick in for just the new episode as a curiosity.

I'll ponder on that some while I work on my shopping list.

Or a call back to the old days?

Just four months after its release Batman: Arkham Asylum was included in the Eidos Collector Pack which was a 20 game pack selling for $50 during that winter sale, which was still the retail price of Arkham Asylum by itself elsewhere.

Though 50% of games a month old is pretty crazy.

Admittedly they weren't all winners but still, it was for the price of Batman anywhere else:

          Batman: Arkham Asylum
          Battlestations: Midway
          Conflict: Denied Ops
          Deus Ex
          Deus Ex: Invisible War
          Flora's Fruit Farm
          Hitman: Codename 47
          Hitman 2: Silent Assassin
          Hitman: Blood Money (4)
          Infernal
          Just Cause
          Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
          Mini Ninjas
          Project: Snowblind
          Rogue Trooper
          Shellshock 2: Blood Trails
          Thief: Deadly Shadows
          Tomb Raider: Legend
          Tomb Raider: Underworld
