It's a special week for the folks at Daybreak Games. The battle for the continent of Auraxis has officially raged on for five years, with control going back and forth across its three most powerful factions. Whlie the armed conflict isn't taking a break anytime soon, Daybreak would like to celebrate the dedicated soldiers of PlanetSide 2 on this fifth anniversary of the game's release.

A Double XP week kicked off on Friday morning and will last all the way through the end of next Friday, November 24 at 11:59PM PT. In addition to that, there are plans in place for the official fifth anniversary date of Monday, November 20. PS2 players can pick up a special Fifth Anniversary Decal for free. Special Fifth Anniversary Bundles will also be made available in the depot on that same date across Initiate's, Soldier's, and Commander's tiers. The bundle's contents can be found on the PlanetSide 2 website.

More details on how Daybreak is celebrating PlanetSide 2's five years can be found on the PS2 update post. Shacknews salutes PlanetSide 2, as well as our Chatty community's own Giant Communist Robots squad. We've tossed in a video below spotlighting one of the old weekly Shackbattles. And this being Chatty, it can get a little NSFW for language, but otherwise, enjoy!

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
