Life just got easier for Blizzard users looking to send gifts to their friends list. The latest Battle.net update has added a number of new social features, but the one at the top of the list is player gifts.

Using the 'Shop' tab will allow users to pick up any giftable item, such as Hearthstone card packs, purchase them and send them over to friends. Think of it as a really easy last-minute birthday present. The giftee will see a gift notification pop up on the upper right corner of the Blizzard app.

Other improvements include a new 'Social' tab that opens the door to one-on-one and group chats. It also opens up chats with friends offline, allowing users to send messages to offline recipients, who will receive them once they log back in. Profiles and Avatars are also on the table, allowing users to express themselves and show off what they've been playing. And of course, those who don't want to be bothered can also set themselves to 'Appear Offline.'

To celebrate this update and offer an idea of how it works, Blizzard is giving Hearthstone players a free Classic pack for their account. Redeem it on the Blizzard shop and then simply log back into the Blizzard Battle.net app.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
