Microsoft plans to send Windows 10 users into a new reality starting October 17 with the deployment of its Fall Creators Update. One of the marquee additions of this update is support for a wide line of virtual reality headsets and software. Dubbed Mixed Reality, Microsoft hopes that the update ushers in a new era of VR content for users and it plans to kick off that new era with content from the NFL.

The NFL has partnered with NextVR, one of the world’s leading VR content producers, to get the action on the gridiron into your VR headset. Several games this season have been broadcast to Samsung Gear VR and Google Daydream users already. Going forward, at least one game per week is scheduled to be available in VR via those platforms and with Microsoft’s Mixed Reality initiative.

Why spend hundreds of dollars on front row tickets when you could watch Jameis Winston overthrowing a pass right into your face in the comfort of your own home? Experience the thrill of standing in the huddle while Russell Wilson tries to sell his freshly concussed teammates on the benefits of Miracle Water. You’ll wonder how you ever enjoyed the NFL before you were able to stand on the sidelines with Andy Reid as he bungles another 2-minute drill with poor clock management.  You'll be just as surprised as Cam Newton when you hear a female sports journalist ask the Panther about a route in a post-game press conferece. The future of watching sports is upon us.
