Full Steam Ahead: PUBG Is Closing In On 2 Million Concurrent Players

Stiff competition doesn't seem to be stifling the PUBG excitement one bit.

If you thought that Epic's efforts with Fortnite: Battle Royale or the massive investments in PUBG-like experiences from other companies would slow the train for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, we'd understand. Also, you'd be forgiven for being very wrong. PUBG surpassed 1 million concurrent players recently and is now on track to surpass 2 million.

PUBG, the gaming darling that pits one hundred players against each other on a deserted island with a regularly shrinking dome that forces players into conflict, has become such a massive success for Bluehole Studios that the developer has had to spin-off an entire division dedicated to the gameGameIndustry.biz reports that the game has nearly doubled its player count since crossing the 1 million milestone and, while Fortnite is pushing pretty incredible numbers on its own, one has to remember that these feats are being reached while the game is only available on PC. The numbers will increase exponentially once it hits Xbox One and, if it ends up coming to PS4 as well, the sky is the limit.

The PUBG team still has quite a few weapons in their arsenal as their community grows. There's the impressive looking desert map that doesn't have a release date and the major improvements to player movement that were teased as E3. Don't just wait for the new updates to drop into the fight, though. Check our guide to maximize FPS performance on your PC and give PUBG a shot.
