New HTC Vive Customers Will Get Fallout 4 VR For Free

Starting today, any HTC Vive purchases will include a pre-order code for arguably the biggest VR game yet.

With competition in the virtual reality market getting a great deal thicker this month, any leg up over the opposition will be crucial. HTC has dropped the price of the Vive headset in order to stay competitive and is highlighting one of the most significant VR software ecosystem additions by giving new Vive customers a code for a free copy of Fallout VR.

Software is one of the areas where VR needs to thrive to maintain interest as hardware becomes more accessible and bigger names are regularly getting involved. Bethesda has taken a dive into the deep end of VR by setting virtual reality entries in three of their major franchises to release before the end of 2017. Fallout VR is one of those three and the code that will come with any HTC Vive purchases starting today will unlock the game on its release date, December 12. 

Fallout VR isn't a snapshot of the game with VR functionality. It will include the entire core experience with combat, crafting, and building elements re-worked for VR. 

"Fallout 4 VR is the most anticipated title for VR this holiday, and the game development team at Bethesda Game Studios is delivering on the promise with a full-length AAA open-world game that takes advantage of Vive’s incredible room-scale immersion for a mind-blowing experience in the Wasteland,” said Joel Breton, GM of Vive Studios, in the press release for the announcement. “The promise of a game with near endless content, including hundreds of locations, characters, and quests, fully playable in VR, is something that we have been focused on providing for the VR gaming community."

While the Rift is closing in on the Vive, Sony is hoping that the major VR manufacturers step their game up. 2018 is going to be another pivotal year for the VR industries and this deal could be a solid spark for HTC. The HTC Vive is available for $599 online and at various retailers near you.
