Evil Dead
by Steve Gibson, Oct 28, 2000 9:20am PDTThere is a whole bunch of new Evil Dead stuff to look at on the official website. They've slapped up some video footage of the game, busted out with a FAQ for you to read and (hopefully) answer your questions, and even got themselves a developer diary going (Thanks BluesNews) You can also check out the screenshots of the game that were released.
On one level, we're trying to make a game that can compete with other survival horror games using a third of the budget, time and manpower typically allotted for the Resident Evil's of the world. Like any game, you start with a grand design that ends up changing throughout production, often significantly. And as you near the end, you wonder whether you made the right decisions, whether the game is going to be great or if it will suck, whether the press and fans will love it or hate it.

I don't want to knock these guys, because the shots seem decent enough especially given the stylized look they've used (rather than the kitchen sink realism of the beautiful Resident Evil series -- see Code Veronica). In fact, I rather appreciate a developer admitting that he worries the game might suck.
If more developers were concerned about suckage, that would be a Good Thing. :)
BTW, when are we going to get a huge online zombie game -- cooperative play with humans vs. the living dead? Is that too much to ask for? :)
