Sony has revealed that they're releasing a hardware update for the PS VR headset in the near future. Recently, the company dropped the entry price for their virtual reality solution by including the PlayStation Camera in the PS VR bundle for $399. Sometime soon, the headset in that bundle and available in other packages with have a slimmer connection cable, HDR pass-through, a design that allows easier stereo headphone integration.

The current model, CUH-ZVR1, will be replaced by the new CUH-ZVR2 and will have updated packaging so consumers will be able to spot the new version a bit easier. The new version's HDR pass-through capability allows for a higher level of convenience, making it so that users won't have to disconnect the VR headset's processor unit in order to enjoy HDR on their television. Unfortunately, current owners won't be able to just purchase the new processor unit because the cables are different for each.

Just about all of the major VR headsets are do for some significant updates in the near future and, while this isn't necessarily a collection of groundbreaking changes, Sony is hoping to inspire one or more of the other major VR entities to step up to the plate.

In their official blog post, Sony states that they will share details on the launch of this new model at a later date but the pricing will stay the same.
