Makes sense Red Dead Redemption takes place in 1911 which is pretty much the end of the wild west the last remaining mainland territories became states in 1912 (cars pretty much replaced horses in major cities by the mid to late teens) so you really can't go forward without it being something else entirely.

YUP, Rockstar says: "...[it's] the story of outlaw Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang as they rob, fight and steal their way across the vast and rugged heart of America in order to survive."

The Van der Linde gang (AKA Dutch's Gang, which John Marston would eventually join).

Thank god they're going with a new protagonist (anti-hero?) instead of just a Marston origin story, prequels are almost never a good idea. I'm okay with some criss-crossing with the background characters of the first game though.

Main character comes off as utterly ruthless in the trailer. Rockstar usually gets a lot of mileage out of making their protagonists reluctant assholes so you can feel better about embodying them (Nico, Michael, Marston all share that). Wonder if they'll find a way to humanize this guy or if they're just going full scoundrel with him. Trevor was a really effective character but he didn't sit well as a player stand-in.

Goddamn this looks nice, I can't wait to see what they do with it.

Yeah that worked so well in GTA that I wonder if R will just make that a core element of all their games going forward. You could totally see Marston as a late-game playable reveal or something.

I think it comes down to execution. Multiple characters worked incredibly well in Nier Automata and The Last Of Us. Its a cool way to show the same event from different perspectives, thus showing points of conflict that the player is aware of but that the characters aren't until its too late.

Trevor was amazing as a player stand-in, because he represented how most people actually end up playing the game, ie: completely sociopathically. it's actually the first time rockstar nailed that, and the first time they haven't had seriously incongruity between what the character is and what the game is asking you to do.

Trevor was one of the best video game characters of the last 20 years. It sucks that they didn't make any DLC with him in it.

I'd rather have one of those by-the-numbers Rockstar open world games that we get every 5 years with cutting edge graphics, sound and animation than one of those by-the-numbers Ubisoft open world games that we get every year and are fairly average in most regards.

INSANE! Man this is going to push a lot of Xbox One Xs and PS4 Pros.

Game looks amazing! So the PC version in a year from launch date :( ... I want to say F that and Rockstar.

I guess a delayed PC version is Rockstar's idea of DRM on the PC? Why does no journalist point blank ask them why there is no PC version the second game? Shack do it for Shacknews, ask them why there is no PC release of RDR2. Also ask them what is the reason, and ask them if they think there is a market on the PC for RDR2 and if they think PlayerUnknown's Battleground has sold well as a PC exclusive.

What are the chances that secretly they are doing a HD remake of the first game for the PC in this engine and it will release on the day of RDR2 console launch? That would be a smart move hey, I doubt this will ever happen sadly :(

Because you already know what the stock, form-letter response will be: "We want to make the best PC version possible! And that takes extra time for polish! Even though the consoles are on the same x86 architecture the PCs are."

The real truth is that they make more money on those console games, and as an added bonus, they can double-dip when the PC players who give in and buy a console copy end up buying a second PC copy once available as well.

There's no reason aside from greed to not release on PC alongside the consoles.

there are huge reasons not to sim-ship on pc, and they have to do with sanity. shipping high-end games that hit hardware hard on pc is a nightmare. the fact that you can get those people to double-dip is just a bonus.

Your name's purple in Lamp, so I'll trust you know what you're talking about, but plenty of devs have come close to simultaneous releases, usually with a month or so window between. Destiny 2, Mad Max, Just Cause 3 (which were cross platform at launch) just to name a few.

An argument can be made against, when looking at the fiasco that was Arkham Knight, but on the whole, the big-budget games with planned PC releases are usually only a month out, not an entire year.

This is greed, through and through.

Destiny being activision and all know their pc numbers for their products so they can somewhat safely guess how many folks would have access to the game.

Its hard numbers. Even with the potential for double dipping on PC, the amount the version on Steam makes is dwarfed by what it pulls in on console.

It might not be what we like but they have roughly 15 years of data backing up their decisions here.

Yeah, I'm not denying the profitability of it. In fact, that's entirely my point. Except they'll use bullshit PR speak to mask their greed.

Delayed PC version is because its more expensive/time-consuming to ship and the console versions make multiple times more. We're talking millions vs billions in revenue.

Also, until they say otherwise I would hold your breath on massive improvements for PS4 Pro/XBox One X. 4K or super sampling are the most I'm expecting, anything else on the visual front will be very surprising.

The model and geometry is nice on the consoles as it is. It's higher framerate and higher rez textures I want.

I will be shocked if we get higher framerate on the 4k consoles. Destiny is locked to 30fps even on the PS4 Pro and XB1X

Those Rockstar devs are really ground to the bone up in Canada. I was by the office making this and half the day a quarter of the team is outside smoking, angry, and cursing about everyone else. Otherwise they’re in the office at all hours to hit deadlines. 2am etc. I feel bad for them.
