Ubisoft’s newest update for Rainbow Six Siege has gone live on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the update doesn’t seem to agree with the PlayStation 4 hardware. Some users are now reporting crashes and even corrupted hard drives after playing the game with the most recent update installed.

As noted on GameSpot, Rainbow Six Siege is prone to crashes when you invite others to join your party while playing with the September 19, 2017 update installed. The matter has not escaped Ubisoft’s attention.

“Players have reported a crashing issue regarding the party invitation,” the support team posted. “We are cooperating with Sony on this issue and would advise you to not use this feature until a resolution is found.”

Though Ubisoft acknowledges the crashing issue, numerous users are suggesting the matter is more serious still. They say their hard drives have also become corrupted or lost data as a result of the same update. Conflicting reports make it difficult to determine who is even at fault, with some blaming the issues on Ubisoft and others suggesting Sony is the culprit.

To make matters worse, a few users suggest the update means trouble even if you try to invite friends to join you to play other games with you while the troublesome Rainbow Six Siege update is installed. If you have a PlayStation 4 with the update installed and you care about your data, in other words, it would be a good idea to avoid using social features (and perhaps even playing online) until the matter is officially resolved.

Since we originally posted this story, a representative from Ubisoft contacted Shacknews with the following statement:

"For users who may have experienced system crashes related to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, SIE has addressed the issue and impacted users should restart their PS4. If problems persist, please contact @AskPlayStation."
