Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite - Battle for the Stones is a $30K Tournament with Seven Evo Winners

Capcom is wasting no time getting Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite's esports scene off the ground, announcing a 16-player tournament that will feature the past seven Evo champions from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

One of the most unfortunate things about Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is that while the community staunchly supported it to the end, publisher Capcom left it behind once licensing issues with Marvel made further developer support impossible. The company hopes to avoid this with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and in an effort to show that they're in it for the long haul, Capcom has announced a special esports circuit centered around its newest crossover fighter.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite - Battle for the Stones is a 16-person tournament set to take place in December. Seven of the tournament spots are being given to the previous seven Evo champions for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Jay "Viscant" Snyder (2011), Ryan "Filipino Champ" Ramirez (2012), Job "Flocker" Figueroa (2013), Justin Wong (2014), Nicolas "KaneBlueRiver" Gonzalez (2015), Christopher "ChrisG" Gonzalez (2016), and Ryan "RyanLV" Romero (2017). Six slots are being saved for winners of six qualifier tournaments, each representing one of the six Infinity Stones. These tournaments are:

• SoCal Regionals (Space Stone): September 22-24 from Anaheim, CA
• Capcom Pro Tour EU Regional Finals (Soul Stone): September 29-October 1 from Milan, Italy
• South East Asia Major (Time Stone): October 14-15 from GameStart 2017 in Singapore
• Canada Cup (Mind Stone): October 27-29 from Toronto, Ontario
• Capcom Pro Tour Latin America Finals (Reality Stone): November 2 from Sau Paulo, Brazil
• Red Bull Proving Grounds (Power Stone): November 18-19 from Boston< MA

The final three slots will be given to the winners of three online tournaments, with details for those coming soon.
