Halo texture packs in Minecraft will be available on more than just Xbox One, as Minecraft's PR team confirmed that Halo-related mash-up packs can be taken over to Nintendo, iOS, Amazon, and other platforms.

Minecraft has been looking to unite more and more players, despite their differences in platform choices. Thanks to the upcoming Better Together update, Minecraft players across different consoles, handheld devices, and other platforms will soon be able to play together. But what does that mean for platform-exclusive content? It sounds like that will be decided on a case-by-case basis, but at least one platform-exclusive pack will be allowed to go across different versions of the game.

Minecraft's PR team confirmed Monday afternoon on Twitter that the game's Halo Mash-Up packs can be played on all versions of the Minecraft that run the Bedrock Engine. This includes:

  • Xbox One
  • Nintendo Switch
  • Windows 10 PC
  • iOS
  • Android
  • Windows 10 Mobile
  • Apple TV
  • Amazon Fire TV
  • Samsung Gear VR
  • Oculus Rift

This is noteworthy because it means Minecraft users will be able to play around with the six Halo-themed maps and over 40 Halo characters on Nintendo, Apple, and Amazon devices. According to the Minecraft team, it's made possible by 343 Studios, who seemed eager to allow this content to be experienced by a greater audience.

The Halo Mash-Up: Minecraft Evolved pack was first released on Xbox 360 in 2014, with Xbox One owners able to bring it over to the newer Microsoft console at no extra charge. Additional content was added to the pack with the 2015 release of Halo 5: Guardians.

It should be interesting to see what other platform-exclusive content is allowed to make the jump to other versions of Minecraft. Will Nintendo allow Switch owners to take their Super Mario Mash-Up Pack to Xbox One or iOS? Will Windows 10 users be able to take their exclusive Horse Armor out to play around Fire TV or Nintendo Switch? Not all of these answers are available at the moment, but the Halo Mash-Up pack being made usable across platforms is an encouraging sign for Minecraft's platform agnostic aspirations.

Minecraft's Better Together update is coming soon to all of the aforementioned platforms.

Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
