Batman Voice Actor Kevin Conroy Says No New Arkham Game Is Being Developed

Kevin Conroy played Batman in the previous Arkham games, so it’s likely he would know.

The Arkham series of Batman games is widely regarded as one of the medium’s best takes on the concept of the super hero, even if Batman: Arkham Knight had issues (in particular, the poorly optimized PC port). You might therefore assume a sequel is well on the way, but according to voice actor Kevin Conroy, you would be wrong.

At the Wizard World Comic Con in Nashville, the voice actor had discouraging news for an audience member who wanted to know if Warner Bros. is currently doing more with its popular series. An attendee captured the exchange on video.

“You know, I can’t believe that they’re not going to do another one, but they’re not,” Conroy said. “Isn’t that amazing? It’s… they made literally billions of dollars on those games. But no, there’s no plan to do another one. Sorry.”

Conroy memorably provided a voice for Batman in 2009’s Batman: Arkham Asylum, after voicing the character in numerous cartoon series and games. He returned for Arkham City in 2011 and Arkham Knight in 2015, but skipped the poorly received Arkham Origins in 2013 (which was developed by a separate team). In other words, he would be privy to plans for a follow-up, if one is in development and has progressed to the point where it needs his vocal cords.

Keep in mind that Conroy isn’t trained in PR-fu, and more Arkham projects could be underway. A PR person would likely have offered a non-answer such as “We have no plans to share at this time,” rather than denying development altogether.

If Rocksteady Games were to produce another Arkham game, it likely wouldn’t arrive until late 2018 or even 2019, so it’s premature to dismiss the possibility entirely. Would you be interested in returning to Arkham?
