Hellblade Tops PS4's Digital Sales Charts For August

Ninja Theory's Triple-A-Indie gamble seems to have paid off.

Ninja Theory shifted their creative process from the slightly safer space of Triple-A to one embracing more indie values and yielding a title that received a near-perfect score from us. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is a grueling journey that focuses on mental illness, something not typically at the forefront of a gaming experience, but it looks like it resonated well. Hellblade topped PS4’s digital sales chart for August over titles like Uncharted: Lost Legacy and Crash Bandicoot.

The American and European PlayStation blogs have shared their digital sales charts for the month of August and Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice performed quite well. In Europe, it topped the chart over Uncharted and Rainbow Six Siege while it was second only to the newly released Madden on the American charts. It’s exciting to see a new IP, especially one with a relatively lower budget, perform this well and hopefully, it will have long legs on the charts going forward.

Another notable takeaway is the Battlefield 1 season pass topping the PS4 add-ons chart. It’s latest DLC, In The Name of the Tsar, released this month and it looks like fans without the season pass decided to play a bit of catch-up. Any that made the leap could be looking forward to the upcoming 5v5 competitive mode that will be released in coming months as well.
