First appearing on PC back in early 2016 courtesy of Iron Galaxy and Microsoft Studios, Killer Instinct was one of the first games to allow for crossplay between Windows 10 and Xbox One users. The free-to-play fighter had been a staple exclusive for Microsoft’s console since it launched. Following Remedy's Quantum Break, Killer Instinct is the next game that had been exclusive to the Windows 10 store to make the journey onto Steam.

The big news is that the Steam version of Killer Instinct will support crossplay with both its Windows 10 and Xbox One counterparts. The news was first revealed in a post by Rukari "rukizzel" Austin, community manager over on the official Killer Instinct forums. The availability of a wider player pool of opponents will make the prospect of picking up the game on Steam much more worthwhile.

While there has been no official release date set for the Steam release of Killer Instinct, Austin implied that it would be available in the coming weeks.
