Image & Form Games are looking to release sequel SteamWorld Dig 2 later in September. But how about the original game? According to VG247, EA's Origin service now has the first SteamWorld Dig available for free, for a limited time.

SteamWorld Dig (not to be confused with spinoff SteamWorld Heist) puts players in control of Rusty the steam-powered mining robot. The idea is to dig underneath an old mining town to collect treasure, while warding off dangerous enemies, in a procedurally-generated Metroidvania adventure. Here's the trailer:

Those looking to try out SteamWorld Dig today can jump onto Origin and pick up the standard edition for no charge.

As for SteamWorld Dig 2, look for that to arrive on September 21 on Nintendo Switch, with PlayStation 4 and Vita set to receive it on September 26.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
