Image and Form Games hit the indie gaming jackpot with their game SteamWorld Dig and the hype train is in high gear as gamers await the release of SteamWorld Dig 2. The developer's community manager, Julius Guldbog, took to Sony's PlayStation blog to reveal that the game is coming to PlayStation 4 and the PS Vita (cross-buy on both) on September 26 and also shared some of the new things to expect from this sequel.

Detailed on the blog, the lead protagonist this time around is Dorothy McCrank, who was a sidekick in the original game. She'll be using her pickaxe to create paths while mining resources, fighting enemies, and encountering a new cast of characters.

SteamWorld Dig 2 enhances the experience in all the ways expected of a sequel, right down to a new soundtrack. In addition to having a new main protagonist, companion characters, abilities and upgrades, and a new world for players to explore, they'll be doing it to the tune of music from El Huervo of Hotline Miami fame. "It’s got a new vibe compared to previous SteamWorld soundtracks and we think you’re gonna dig it," Guldbog says.

SteamWorld Dig 2 will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch a few days earlier on September 21, which is a bit of news that highlighted the most recent Nindies Showcase.
