New PUBG Map Puts Desert Before Chicken Dinner

PlayerUnknown plans on dusting your chicken dinner with a little southwestern flavor.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds continues to be the belle of the PC gaming ball. After seemingly coming out of nowhere earlier this year, the game continues to gain a seemingly unstoppable momentum. The shooter has a new partnership with Microsoft. It’s player base now rivals that of PC gaming’s biggest dogs and it continues to sell through at an accelerated pace. PlayerUnknown himself announced at Gamescom that 8 million copies have been sold since the game launch on March 23. During the same keynote address, he revealed the first major glimpse at a new map for PUBG.

The new map is desert themed and the first screenshot reveals an urban area drenched in warm hues. Many of the structures are much larger than those seen in the PUBG’s default map and the outer perimeter features joshua trees scattered across the sand. It offers a substantial visual contrast to the greens and grays that dominate the eastern European setting in the game now.

The is no estimate on when players will get to see the new map in-game. The Gamescom Invitational Crates are still available in PUBG until the end of the convention. You can find out all about them here. Look for the giant red blood spray if you don't get that you missed.

There are desyncs and blood spray is client side so you can't ever be sure you hit someone until they go down.

the blood spray means little, you can get hits that have it, dont have it, sometimes you can get it even if you missed. its a vague indicator at best.

i use older drivers, updating GPU drivers is russian roulette these days. i generally wont update drivers until i have a reason to. you should nuke your entire NVIDIA install and start over, dont use GFE either because it can do some really stupid shit.

oh also, there is an uncommon but known bug with PUBG where the .ini file gets set to read only. are you SURE you are running at the graphics settings that you think you are? maybe check and see if your stuff isnt all on ultra or something, and then check to make sure its toggling after exiting the game.

to clarify, you can change settings just fine IN GAME, but as soon as you exit the game the settings revert to the settings in the bugged ini file. this happened to me twice, nooone seems to know what causes it but its easy to fix.

Well the CPU isn't the issue I can assure you of that.

that should run it just fine, thats still a good CPU

do a complete uninstall of your Nvidia drivers/software. dont save any settings or anything (i dont remember if thats an option for modern Nvidia drivers during uninstall) if its an option. Reinstall latest drivers without any GFE.

I will note right now, my drivers are 382.05. These are a bit older but work on everything just fine and i wont upgrade them until I have to. You can probably find that exact driver on nvidias download page somewhere, just for your own comfort feel free to try it rather than the very latest. It really shouldnt matter, but I understand the impetus to maybe try something different.

If that doesnt fix it, then we will go from there. AFAIK you shouldnt need to use something like the old DDU program to full remove nvidia drivers, the standard uninstall should get rid of everything but if you try what I have said and it doesnt work, it might be worth it to give DDU a try. http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html it basically does a deeper nuking of your drivers, but as I said it shouldnt be needed.

If the reinstall doesnt work, then im sure we can help you figure it out. Might be something in the background hogging CPU cycles or something.

There is the answer. 1440p will cut your frame rate massively on a 970, it just doesn't have the memory bandwidth and the infamous 3.5 gigabytes scandal actually comes into play in certain games pubg being one of them, at resolutions beyond 1080

all of these fucking games need to just use BFs "tick" hit indicator. there is no reason not to, the combat in all these games is basically the same and it would work fine in PUBG. its kinda weird not to have it, its such a small addition that adds a ton of "feeling" to the combat.

its hilarious during the early game deathmatch to unload a double barrel blast into someones head, and watch them continue to run for like 2.5 seconds before the game "registers" it and they just ragdoll midstep. TBH the games combat kinda sucks ass, its a mess. and they REALLY need to remove the "hipshot" button from first person mode. it feels so janky and stupid.
