Man’s best friend is coming to The Sims 4 in a new expansion. Unfortunately, so are cats.

At a Gamescom event held today in Cologne, Germany, Electronic Arts and Maxis announced the Cats & Dogs expansion for The Sims 4. You should be able to find it in stores and online starting November 10, 2017, with an MSRP that apparently has yet to be determined.

As the pack’s title suggests, The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs will allow players to take care of virtual pets, along with the virtual people they already manage. A “Create A Pet” tool allows them to design their purr-fect pet, while choosing from a large variety of breeds or even mixing and matching. Just imagine a Saint Bernard and Chihuahua mix that loves killing people and eating at Taco Bell.

When you create your pet, you can add crazy patterns to remind yourself that this animal is not real, or instead mimic the unique design that adorns your furry companion in real life. You can also select special outfits and accessories, along with personality traits tailored to your liking, rather than calling on Cesar Millan for a little reality TV assistance.

The press release also notes that unique personality traits will emerge as you play games with and train your pets, so a sense of mystery will endure to some extent. It also will be possible to schedule visits to a veterinarian, or even to build a clinic of your own (which you will then need to staff, when you’re not busy tending to animals yourself).

“The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs offers fans some of the cutest, most charming pets ever seen in The Sims,” said Lyndsay Pearson, the game’s executive producer. “From dogs and cats to puppies and kittens, the new tools for customizing pets are so flexible and powerful, players can really create anything they can imagine. We know how much our community values four-legged friends as part of their families and I am thrilled at what the team has been able to bring to life.”

Maxis also announced a new region for players to inhabit, the Brindleton Bay coastal area. It’s perfect for when you want to take a walk at a lighthouse, find abandoned strays you can adopt, or even navigate an obstacle course and other similar locations.

Previous versions of The Sims offered broader pet-based expansions, so today’s announcement leaves hope that Maxis will consider The Sims 4 Rodents and Reptiles somewhere down the road, if this first animal-centric outing goes well. The possibilities are virtually endless.

Are you still playing The Sims 4? And what do you think of the new content? Does it sound like the cat’s meow or what?
