We keep waiting, hoping, even dreaming about an Okami 2 some day, but in the meantime, it looks like we may have to settle for Okami HD for PS4 and Xbox One. It appears that two European retailers have added the remastered classic to their internal release schedules.

Apparently Capcom has told the two retailers that a physical version of the game will be available on December 12, two sources told Kotaku UK. The game was also remastered for PS3 back in 2012, but was only released through PlayStation Network as a digital download.

Capcom is not responding to queries from various outlets, and retail release leaks are notoriously inaccurate, so this should be taken with a heavy dose of "yeah, right."

The game, originally released for PS2 back in 2006 and later ported to Wii, is fondly remembered for its unique art style and gameplay where players played a wolf goddess capable of changing landscapes with brush strokes. So a remaster is a good idea for current gen consoles until series director Hideki Kamiya of Platinum Games can move forward with the ideas he has for a sequel.
