Apple's HomePod firmware has leaked, offering a glimpse at just what the iOS maker may be planning for its upcoming launch of the next-generation iPhone device. How does facial recognition, a bezel-less design and no home button strike you?

The leaked code, detailed by developer Steve Troughton-Smith, shows that the facial unlock will use infrared technology as part of a BiomtericKit. Another tweet by iOS developer Guilherme Rambo said that the new iPhone was codenamed "D22" and the facial recognition called Pearl ID. The facial feature seems to confirm earlier reports that Apple may be nuking the Touch ID in favor of the new front-facing infrared tech. 

The developers, among others have been tearing apart the code in the HomePod, a new speaker system announced by Apple early last month. Apple accidently pushed the firmware live yesterday, and the developers were able to snag it before Apple caught the goof and pulled it.

Rumors had been circulating that the new iPhone would feature a notch-at-the-top, bezel-less design, and Troughton-Smith said that it was actually included in the OS, virtually assuring the accuracy of the rumors. He also said that there are tidbits throughout the code that suggest the new iPhone will have a "3X screen at 1125x2436." The new phone is expected to have an edge-to-edge screen that wraps around the speakers and sensors.

The new iPhone, which could be called iPhone Pro, iPhone 8 or even iPhone X, was expected to be announced in September, but word is that 3D technology being added to the higher end devices may push the release back. The new phones are expected to come packed with plenty of new tech, which could run the price of the top-of-the-line model to close to $1,000.
