Destiny 2 Countdown PvP Guide
A guide for Countdown, including Revive Tokens, Power Ammo, and class composition.
In Destiny 2, the Countdown PvP game mode is a lot like Search and Destroy in another game that we can’t quite put our finger on. There are two bomb sites, with teams made up of attackers and defenders. The attackers need to plant a bomb at one of two sites, and the defenders need to prevent them from doing so. This 4-vs-4 game mode can be quite competitive, so here are some tips to help you win while playing Countdown in Destiny 2.
Attacking and Defending
Each team in the Countdown PvP mode is made up of four players. One team must attack, meaning they need to take the bomb (every attacking player has a bomb by default) to one of two sites and plant it. The team that is defending must first try to prevent the plant, and if they aren’t successful, must then try and defuse the bomb before it explodes at the end of a 60-second timer. Either side can also win by killing everyone on the opposite team.
Revive Tokens
In the Countdown PvP mode, each player spawns with something called a Revive Token, meaning that your team gets a total of four revives. If one player dies, you can spend your Revive Token to resurrect them and bring them back into the fight. If they die again, someone else on your team must revive them since you’ve already spent your Revive Token. If three players are down on your side, you can revive one, but then they’ll have to revive the next, so on and so forth.
Team Composition
Team composition means something in any mode Destiny 2 offers, but especially a competitive PvP mode like Countdown. Therefore, it’s best to join a game with a four-person squad you know and can communicate with, allowing you to plan which classes and subclasses will be utilized. If you go with a bunch of random players through matchmaking, you’re just as likely to end up with four Hunters than you are a sensible balance.
Super Abilities
In Destiny 2, PvP game modes like Countdown show you who on the enemy team has a Super, and what that Super is. This takes strategy and planning to an entirely new level. If you know that someone on the opposing team has their Super ready to go, it might not be wise to bunch up in a group of four, risking your whole team being wiped out. At the same time, splitting your team up risks having them get picked off by larger squads. It’s the sort of information that means on-the-fly strategy adjustments will be key.
Use Power Ammo
In PvP game modes like Countdown, Power Ammo is tinted purple and can be found on the walls. The team that picks this Power Ammo up can make use of the most powerful weapons in the game, which are often a one-hit kill in PvP. Think of it much the way that Heavy Ammo worked in the original Destiny. The team that dominates the Power Ammo pickups will most likely have an easy time wiping the opposing team and securing an easy round.
The best tip you can get for the Countdown PvP mode in Destiny 2 is to utilize teamwork, communication, and to be ready to adjust your strategy on the fly. This mode is going to become a common hangout for the most skilled four-person Fireteams in Destiny 2, and approaching it with a casual attitude and a bunch of random players is going to all but guarantee your loss.
