Video streaming is big on console. So with the launch of Nintendo Switch in March, the obvious question was when it would get a streaming app. The answer is today, but it's not from a company you have likely heard of unless you are familiar with Japan.

Niconico launched its streaming service, making it available on the Japanese Nintendo eShop for free. The service is incredibly popular in Japan and is known for it livestreams, much the way YouTube is known in the rest of the world. The service allows you to upload videos, and include your own annotations and special effects. Polls and quizzes can also be added.

The service will work here in America, but you will need to login to the Japanese shop and set up an account to download it and tart streaming videos.

It isn't clear when YouTube, Netflix or Hulu will get their apps together for the Switch, but Nintendo said in January that streaming services were being considered for a future update.
