Blizzard Rejects The Lich King For Job on Hearthstone

His previous work as Wielder of Frostmourne and Master of the Damned weren't enough to join the Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion team.

Blizzard just announced its Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion for Hearthstone, and revealed that jobs were available on the dev team. This leads to a rather unconventional job applicant who has some great experience, but not necessarily the right kind.

In a lighthearted video touting the expansion, game director Ben Brode interviews The Lich King, who boasts such awe-inducing "jobs" as Lord of the Scourge, Master of the Damned, Ruler of Icecrown Citadel and, of course, Wielder of Frostmourne. Pretty impressive for a World of Warcraft villain, but severely lacking in real world game experience. Brode shakes his hand and sends him on his way, but not before The Lich King offers some invectives about "darkening the halls of this sweltering bastion of flannel" and something about "pleas of mercy for your forsaken soul."

In addition to releasing the video, Blizzard revealed that pre-orders for the expansion have kicked off and players can order 50 card packs and get a Frostmourne card back for $49.99. The packs will go live with the expansion sometime in August.

Brode talked a bit about the expansion, revealing that it will give a boost to control decks to counter aggressive styles of play, mainly through a Lifesteal mechanic coming in the new cards.

It is possible, too, that Blizzard may have intentionally outed its next World of Warcraft expansion with the Knights of the Frozen Throne announcement trailer.

      That is awesome!

But $50 for an Xpac? Guess I won't be getting back into Hearthstone anytime soon.

Lol $50 if you want a competitive deck you need to spend way more than $50 or play a ton to get gold.

I quit because it got grindy or expensive to even play casually. I like the single player expansions more these days, TBH.

Those are included in every expansion now. This being the first one. You get a little 2 wing mini adventure setting up the expansion.

Ah, so they're changing the format. You can buy it without the 50 cards, right?

Note that this is an expansion in that there's new cards so a new type of card pack you can buy. The $50 is for like 50 packs or something but you can also just get them by using the gold you get from playing.

The expansions that are "adventures" (as in, have a plot and particular scripted matches and you win the cards from winning the matches) are usually like $20-$25. Those are more along the lines of an expansion pack in the traditional sense of the word.

But this new frozen king thing is the former, not the latter.

For what it's worth I've played this game for years now and I've bought the single player expansion packs but never bought any other card packs with money, I just do the daily quests and buy new packs with the gold. I've had a lot of fun with the game and don't take it too seriously and I dust all the wild cards when they go wild and so it's possible to play the game, not spend much, and still enjoy it. Not that everyone is going to be that way.

The adventures are done now. They are no longer making new ones. Instead they will be including free mini-adventures with every new expansion release.

For example if you beat the little 2 wing adventure that is coming with Knights they will give you a free legendary hero card (new thing added this expansion).

MTG and other card games laugh at how cheap it is to stay current in Hearthstone.
