Bungie Explains Destiny 2's Clan System

Destiny players can migrate their groups into clans when Destiny 2 touches down this fall.

In its weekly blog update, Bungie detailed how clans will work in Destiny 2, and how they’ll distinguish themselves from groups in the original Destiny.

Clans can welcome up to 100 members, the same limit as Destiny’s group. Unlike groups, clans will be much more flexible. A player’s Destiny 2 account can belong to one clan on each platform—Xbox One, PS4, and PC—if you happen to have friends playing on a different platform than yours. Players who lead groups in the original game will have from July 25 until late August to decide if they want to transfer their group into Destiny 2’s clan system ahead of the sequel’s launch on consoles in September (the PC version will follow in October, and be sold through Blizzard’s online service, formerly known as Battle.net).

“Clan Founders will be able to transfer their title and permissions to another member who will be a more faithful leader for future adventures,” Bungie added. “If you have bigger plans for the existing Group that hosts your Clan, you can leave it as is and explore your own community purpose outside of the game. This housekeeping period will last for one month. After that time, new Clan creation functionality will go live on Bungie.net to support Destiny 2.”

Destiny 2’s clans will be more full-featured than groups, offering options such as sending in-game clan invites to players and the ability to host Guided Games, a matchmaking-style system for Nightfall Strikes and Raids.

Bungie will host a beta for Destiny 2 on PS4 beginning on July 18. Xbox One players can get in on the action on July 19. In late August, PC players will be privy to a beta of their own.
