Sonic the Hedgehog is celebrating his 26th birthday today, and Sega has announced a nice and slightly anachronistic keepsake: a vinyl album. The album isn't a collection of retro tracks, though. Rather, it pays tribute to Sonic Mania, the upcoming homage throwback to classic Sonic games.

The announcement boasts that it will feature tracks from Sonic Mania composer Tee Lopes, and come in three versions: Sonic Blue, Classic Black, and a Limited Edition. The album will be available for pre-order through Data Discs in late July. The Limited Edition will only be available through the Data Discs site, and all three will include download codes for the digital version.

Sonic Mania the game, rather than the album, is coming on August 15 for $19.99. It will feature new zones, reimagined classics, and 60 FPS gameplay so Sonic's running will be silky smooth.
