Best of E3 Awards 2017 Winners

The Shacknews E3 2017 team put together a prestigious list of awards for the best games, developers and companies of the show. Did your favorite secure a place on our list?

E3 2017 was rife with amazing surprises and other developments that our team worked tirelessly to cover, 'round the clock, for the entirety of the show. But which announcements truly took the cake? Which were the best of the best?

Best Visual Art Style: Ori and the Will of the Wisps

No one was expecting a follow-up to the excellent Ori and the Blind Forest, but we're getting a sequel, and this one looks even better than the previous game.

Best Under-the-Radar Announcement: Metroid: Samus Returns

No one could have guessed we'd be getting not one, but two Metroid titles this year at E3, but Nintendo delivered with both Metroid Prime 4 and Metroid: Samus Returns, a remake of the Game Boy game Metroid 2: Return of Samus. Who'd have thought?

Best 3-Letter URL: IGN

Well, there is only one gaming site with three letters in its URL.

Best Breakthrough Indie: Ashen

Ashen is a moody and atmospheric adventure that looks quite promising.

Best Awkward Michael Meme

I'm not really sure what this is about.

Best Respite from the Crowds: Sony's Press Area

Sony had a great setup where you could just get away from all the crowds of E3 2017 in its press area, which our team found very relaxing and comforting.

Best Tech: Xbox One X

The Xbox One X was very impressive to our group at E3, with its powerhouse hardware and all of its capabilities. It's going to be a boon for gamers looking for the kind of fidelity only 4K can truly bring.

Best VR: Sprint Vector

Running in VR? That's what you'll be doing in this frenetic new game, which has you doing exactly what the game's title says: sprinting!

Best USB Drive: NVIDIA

As it turns out, NVIDIA makes one heck of a USB drive!

Best Game That Should be on Switch: LawBreakers

This kind of game is really a no-brainer when it comes to portability, especially since the Switch facilitates multiplayer gaming.

Best Surprise: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Though technically slides were already leaked ahead of E3 2017, everyone was still pretty shocked to see this game actually exists, and that it looks very fun!

Best Booth: Nintendo

Nintendo had a swath of some of the best games in the house available, and its booth was no less enthralling than its presentation and E3 2017 lineup. Our team found it a delight!

Best FPS: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

There's always room for another Wolfenstein game, and this sequel looks like it will pack just as much visceral combat into a gorgeous package as the last game. Plus, that trailer is absolutely bonkers. Hey, look! Pete Hines!

Best Presentation: Bethesda

Bethesda's E3 2017 presentation blew our team away, likely due to the adorably kitschy Bethesdaland production that surrounded the announcements, as well as the introduction of Doom VFR. You know how we feel about Doom here at Shacknews, so this development was a no-brainer. Besides, it was just a tight little presentation that delivered its announcements in a clear way. There's something to be said for simple elegance.

Best Developer Presentation: Josef Fares, A Way Out

A Way Out offered up some very enticing gameplay, and Josef Fares did a fantastic job of showing out for the game. Our team was impressed by the game's content, action, and premise, and Fares' intriguing presentation.

Game of Show: Super Mario Odyssey

What more can you say about Super Mario Odyssey other than the fact that it's defied expectations in nearly every way? Everything we saw at E3 2017 only made us want to play it even more. It's going to be one heck of a ride, especially as far as the Mario universe goes, and we can't wait to get our hands on Cappy.

Apparently Nvidia is doing a giveaway of 1080 of them to subscribers to their newsletter through GeForce Experience.
