E3 2017: Insomniac's Spider-Man Gets Massive Gameplay Video

Spiderman's latest adventure appears to be his most ambitious yet.

Seems like Sony saved the best for last, as they've punctuated their E3 2017 press conference with a massive new gameplay video for Insomniac's upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive title Spider-Man.

The new footage shows everyone's favorite web crawler slinking and jumping his way through an abandoned warehouse taking out the minions of criminal overlord Fisk. Numerous gameplay features were on display, including Spidey's new ability to jumpkick and pin enemies against a wall with his web. The game looks to make liberal use of slow-motion fighting based around Spiderman's heightened senses as well, effectively meaning players will be able to execute combos that far outpace the abilities of basic human opponents.

As could be expected, there's a huge amount of web-based city traversal, which is useful for doing things like taking out helicopters and saving innocent bystanders from the resulting debris. Even better, Insomniac dropped a nice post-credit nod to fans of the Ultimate Spiderman series:

Like many of the games shown off at Sony's press conference, players can expect to get their hands on Insomniac's Spider-Man sometime in 2018.

Good thing those office buildings were empty.

I like the Ultimate Spidey reference at the end.

That looks pretty freaking awesome, but the web swinging still doesn't look as good as Spider-Man 2 :-(

Looks great, but I hope they work on the animations before launch. Everything seemed a little too clinical, lacking impact. The combat in Batman / Mordor works well because they have a good amount of "ooomph" to their audiovisual delivery when fighting, and this seems to be missing that.

That looks incredibly good fun. They nailed the swing mechanics, let you boost by pulling towards the ground, and make great use of web shit in combat. Can't wait.

wait... right? like... i don't want a PS4, and knowing the Spider-man game is exclusive to the PS4 makes me lose interest in the game. right?

You're interested in a game, that's a good reason to get the thing that lets you play it.

        Two things here:

        - Spider-Man Homecoming is a Sony license.
        - Insomniac's very good Sunset Overdrive did poorly on the Xbox One.

AITOO who doesn't mind QTEs? I mean, I don't want an entire game of them, but I enjoy them from time to time. God Of War always did them well. There are certain "cinematic" type moments that just would be as cool if you tried to give the player full control.

I really enjoyed Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, and Cliff Hanger. But is that what I want from a superhero web slinging game?

in some games it works, even Tomb Raider at least the latest one it was sort of OK. But yeah fast paced twitch game play it feels wrong.

It was weird though how people kinda slammed Sunset Overdrive until they actually played it.

I think it suffered from the console wars when people weren't able to acknowledge a game on the XB1 might be good.

It looked weirdly slow to me, the combat especially but also the movement through the city.

The graphics are amazing obviously though and Sunset Overdrive was really good so this should be but I dunno looked odd.

It's Arkham Asylum combat + Spider-man 2 web slinging + Prototype parkour + cutscene QTEs. There's nothing really unbelievable in it.
