The Pokemon Company Reports a Net Profit of $143.3 Million, 26 Times Its Previous Net

Pokemon Go elevated the company to great heights, but it was one in a series of new games that helped the company prosper.

The Pokemon Company disclosed a net profit of $143.3 million for the fiscal year ending February 28, roughly 26 times its previous net profit of $5.6 million (via GameSpot).

Kahtan Games, Inc., a blog managed by a consultant to Japan's games industry, observed that the $143.3 net profit is the largest in The Pokemon Company's recent history. The company reported net earnings of $10.6 million for the FY ending in 2013, $18.4 million for 2014, and $5.6 million for the 2015 fiscal year.

Pokemon Go was responsible for a large slice of that pie, but so were Pokemon Sun and Moon, the latest entries in the main Pokemon series, which debuted on 3DS during the recent fiscal year. Nintendo reported back in December that Sun and Moon elevated the Pokemon series the best launch in franchise history. Moreover, Sun and Moon went down in history as the most pre-ordered games in Nintendo's history, as well as the company's fast-selling games in North America.

While Pokemon Go fever has cooled since the game's launch last summer, it's still performing more than well enough for Niantic, Nintendo, and The Pokemon Company. Just this past February the game reached 650 million downloads. Last fall, Pokemon Go earned $600 million in revenue faster than any other mobile game, surpassing even juggernauts like Candy Crush Saga.

I guess having an international success unlike almost anything ever seen before will do that for you. I'm betting they don't hit those numbers next year.

I haven't seriously played a Pokemon game in years (ignore Go because mobile games, and just haven't had time for the main RPGs, which I loved back in high school) but I will get the next main Pokemon game for Switch. It's been too long. MY BODY IS READY. (My work schedule is not, but I'll deal.)

I became champion in Pokemon Moon, which was the first game I picked up since Emerald maybe? And was definitely the first one I actually got that far in. Haven't continued with the post endgame stuff though since that meant grinding up my team a bit and I was all "meh" by that time.

Got that far in... Since Red actually, got to the final 4 but didn't beat them in Gold. Wow.
