Zerstorer Stuff
The Zerstorer demo is already make a lot of waves, I checked it out last night with giggler and a visitor and we were all pretty damn impressed. You would think they should have gone commercial with a product of this quality. I know I would pay money for something as good as thing thing is.
Operation 3dfx already has a review posted of Zer, and uh, guess what. It's good or something. It's 11megs and worht the download you puds. Grab it.
Hexen2 Chasecam
Well, if you haven't already tried the chas_active 1 command in Hexen2, uh.. I guess just now a lot of people are finding out about it? There is also a patch that improves upon this over at the ChascamII page.
Wild Sex
Considering the outage of news this weekend, I figured I should tell you guys about the wild crazy hog nasty sex that I participated in last night. Aside from the fact that I got a charlie horse about 30minutes into it, it was a good thing. I think next time I do it I'm not gonna be alone!
Jedi Knight
Can you feel it!? We are just a couple of days away from the release of the Jedi Knight internet demo. The sequel to Dark Forces in a true 3d world, you will love this thing. It will at least keep you occupied until the Half-Life and Quake2 demos come out. :)

Zer Demo
Here ya go, the Zerstorer demo is out! This is the partial conversion project that KillMe of id Software was a part of for a while before he was hired to work at id Software, if you want to check out the homepage take a look at www.killme.com It includes 7 single player levels of extremely high quality, as well as several deathmatch levels to suit your fancy as well.
Forsaken Shots
I snagged these 3 new screenshots of Probe's Forsaken project from VooDoo Extreme, which were actually snagged from the Press kit CD. Check em out:
More Shots
There are some new screenshots of Quake2 over at PC Gamer's web page.
Miller Time
Scott Miller, the man from 3DR (Who recently felt the burn of Brian Hook's .plan) has done an interview with Actionworld.com Check it out. -Prophet.
Qoole Beans
Yet another version of GLQoole and WinQoole have been released at the homepage, www.qoole.com make sure and grab your copy. Hopefully I'll be getting a CD soon with the registered version so I can really play around with the thing myself. :) Thanks dark Monkey.
GL Underground Port
The "other guys" who are also working on a port similar to what Zanshin was / is doing, GL Underground. (Zan's court case is this monday btw, wish him luck!) have released their GL work to a group of "selected developers" for review and input. Here is a bit of info that they posted, Thanks to VooDoo Extreme
...OGL 3DFx port Beta 2 has been released to a small number of game developers for a trial by fire.
..we decided on the limited release because:
1. Its still not ready for the bigs - BSOD
2. The few lucky recipients were hip to GL when most of us were still choking on pop rocks and toting Starsky and Hutch lunchboxes.
3. We wanted constructive, substantive feedback related to deficiencies etc.
.....final release date - when its ready - we want a rock solid - battle tested beast - cocked, locked and ready to rock
QUESTION : How do you account for the nitro performance ?
ANSWER:
1. Good old fashioned code optimization - we use our own in house compiler(thanks Amit and Darien) - VC++ lip licks gorilla snot
2. What we call &ldquoReductive Layering&rdquo - no elaboration forthcoming - i.e. Direct 3D is a layered pig.
. . . . Early port feedback : Its like my grandma when she OD&rsquod on ExLax™ -explosive speed but kind of messy !
.... a miniport subset of the full port should be available by mid December - hopefully in time for Q2 - it will be freely distributed but in keeping with our self righteous, for the common good ideology we may ask for a $1.00 contribution to various children&rsquos charities.
..... Will I roast in eternal hellfire if I don&rsquot contribute ? Yes, Definitely - Without Exception .

More Quake2
Well after the glut of just so-so screenshots, OGR has posted some great looking ones of their own. They are coolbeans and stuff. Thanks Doug of well, OGR.
Zer Update
This massive and great Partial Conversion for Quake is about to hit the net. The Zerstorer page has been updated with this bit of info:
We are on schedule to release this project sometime tomorrow. Several members of the team will be on IRC.3dnet.net channel #Zer after the release so people can stop by and chat while they download.
Also, I have traded some mail with the guys behind this project and will have this major release ready for download moments after the release. (Hopefully... heh) I can only speculate how many of these guys will get snatched up by game companies after this pack is released, it is stellar.
Return of W00d
Redw00d, along with the rest of www.stomped.com has returned to the net! Just thought you guys should know, you can stop emailing me now asking me to fix red's page.
Oh.. I just want to stop and say something, Netscape 4.0's html interpreter is a piece of shit. I figured I should share.
GameSpy v1.0
The evolution of QuakeSpy into an all Quake engine games supporting server query app has begun, and here is the 411 straight from PlanetQuake:
Gamespy (the software formerly know as QuakeSpy ;-) ) version 1.0 will be released to the public on October 1st after a lengthy beta test. The beta test has been well received and is notable for the inclusion of Hexen2 support.
Registered users of QuakeSpy can still download the beta version of GameSpy at www.quakespy.com up until the public release.
Also of note is the announcement that the new GameSpy website at www.gamespy.com will open on October 1st as well. The new site was designed by |2|, the web genius who brought the world the recent redesign of the id Software web site. Good Stuff!
Turok Demo!
Thanks to Redw00d for the word that Turok, that incredible looking game that initially came out on the N64 has hit the PC. Guess what, it's taking me forever to download, you can get it from:
Oh, and you need a 3dfx card to play this demo.
Rocket Arena Tab
First off you NEED Qspy from www.quakespy.com of course, but since you have that, and I know you love to play rocket arena, you may want tu use this custom tab sent to me by Jason Ritchie.
Here ya go. Just hit view / custom tab / import and you are there dude.
.plan Wagon
Brian Hook has some good news in his .plan file, sounds to me like the same thing that was done for QuakeWorld a little while ago by Jack Mathews now working at 3dfx, but here ya go:
I got 8-bit paletted textures working last night with the 3Dfx Voodoo. There is a new extension to allow for shared texture palettes, and 3Dfx, as far as I know, is the first hardware company to implement it. The difference in performance is quit astounding -- far less thrashing occurs, so the frame rate maintains consistency extremely well.
I'm now back to cleaning up the menuing code and doing optimization of various bottlenecks.
Paul Jaquays updated his .plan talking about just how durn cool John Cash and those other two programmers are:
Our programming team is simply awesome. The changes made last night didn't actually speed the game up ... they just stopped it from slowing down (I test on a P120 which is actually below the target baseline and this game MOVES in hardware). Of course, there were some texture compromises that had to be made ... but man, I know you're gonna love all THREE textures that we can put in the game now ( the light one, the contrasting dark one and the user-selectable decorator accent).
Oooops. Giving away company secrets. Gotta run now. No time for controversy (still haven't answered the last round of controversy).
Paul
For the humor impaired, this is a JOKE. There are more than 3 textures, It is just a fact of life when optimizing for 3d cards with only 2 megs of texture memory that you need to think real hard about the number of unique textures per level.
Steed Interview
Billy Wilson, our man over at VooDoo Extreme (Who can't stay up all night, due to being a wuss, but lets not get into that) has done an interview with Paul Steed. Check out www.voodooextreme.com and be enlightened.
Quake Hits Playboy
Interesting bit of news.. the Polish issue of Playboy that just came out has a nice 6 page article talking about Quake and all it's glory.. they even talk to our man PoLiSh from Brutality and Operation Bayshield. Thanks YoonioR for the news.
Blood V1.1
New version of Monolith's 3d action game Blood has been released. It's a build engine game, so you know what that means.. But here are a couple of the files:
Sharewave v1.1
(16 megs)
Internet Shareware update (294K)
There are about 2 dozen other damn patches which I don't feel like posting, but if you really need these files grab them from www.blood.com
Screen Shots
A few new screenshots have hit the net again.
Worldcraft + Hexen2
If you are itching to edit Hexen2, there is some help over at the Worldcraft homepage ( www.worldcraft.com ) So uh.. go make some levels or something.
Hexen2 Review
AVault has just posted their own review of the full version of Hexen2.. I've been really meaning to play through this entire game and check it out for myself, MageSlayer was absolutely great. (If you haven't tried it, grab the demo from my almost respectable files section)
|
Rocket Arena
As planned, the new version of the immensely popular mod, Rocket Arena has been released over at the homepage. There are some new great looking levels that I can't wait to play on in this pack. There are 18 maps total now, so uh.. you better learn them all!
Here is Rocket Arena v1.1 hosted locally.
Oh.. it's actually 1.21am but I'm not feelin like starting a whole new day just yet.. So I didn't. Check that out huh? Geeze.. the power.. I can feel it.. You can call me father time.
They Live! (And 3 Half-Life mpgs!)
Well I'll be damned.. Wedge and Choryoth are actually not dead over at Valve... Apparently the rumors of their demise have been false.. They also have 3 new Half-Life movies for you guys to check out over there as well! Wedge demonstrates his gift of storytelling as always so you are in for a treat.
Jobs!
Just so you guys know, there is nothing more fun that I can think of than working at a game company. You can actually pass of watching movies, playing nintendo, just about anything as "research" It's the best. heh. Got a couple of companies looking to hire all you game lovers out there, first off I got this from CaveDog yesterday:

And then we have SunStorm hiring as well! You guys better work your asses off and score a job.
Here at Sunstorm, we're hiring again. I was hoping you could post
this job opening on your news page.
---
Sunstorm Interactive is hiring! Having created such hits as "Duke it out in D.C." and "Cryptic Passage" for Blood, we are growing fast! We are looking to hire a full-time programmer to add to our development team. You'll be creating hot new mods for future games, and contributing to the development of our own in-house game titles. Candidate should have experience with programming in C / C++ / Quake C. Relocation to Indianapolis, Indiana required. See our web page at www.sunstorm.net for details!
Hexen2 CTF
w00, looks like work on a CTF patch for Hexen2 is already in progress (It's actually called Siege, and will be a bit different from Quake CTF) there are some preliminary screenshots availa ble at www.hexenworld.com/siege/shots.html
Wack
More incredible links showing off what is so great about human beings. Check the sections as always.
The Shuga Movie.
I have the moral obligation to post this movie. Grab a dude with too much time on his hand and let him create a bsp based on my logo, then a couple more guys who like strippers and groovin music, and you get this incredible tribute to my page.
Shuga2.mov was created by the following people:
Jokey (wigdor+@andrew.cmu.edu) -> Kick ass Shuga Shack bsp
Embrionic (emb@qa.com) -> Made the dem
LooniBoy (loonyboi@planetquake.com) -> Mixed it and converted it to Mov
Note: No strippers were injured in anyway during the film of Shuga2
Rob Zombie + Quake2
Guess what, they got the theme song in for Quake2, here is what American McGee had to say, the dude handling sounds for Quake2:
When I came into work this morning I was greeted with a Fed-Ex package from LA. Contained inside was a DAT on which was recorded something beyond cool. Everyone gathered around as I slid the DAT into the player and pressed play. Silence... and then... ass-kicking, head-pounding, hairs standing on end music spewed forth. Ahhh... the sounds of Rob Zombie doing his music thing as only he can do! We all smiled at each other. We were all thinking the same thing: "This is the bad ass theme song that goes with the bad ass art that fills the bad ass levels that contain the bad ass monsters which is all coming together into Quake II" I hope everyone is prepared for this.
Half-Life Feature
OGR has worked out a deal with Valve that they will be giving out a "monster of the week" which includes screenshots, and AVI, and all kinds of other sorts of information about Valve's coolbeans 3d game soon to be released. Remember the projected release of the demo is the middle or end of next month.
.plan Wagon
Got a few good .plan updates since last night.. Brian Hook has updated about the switching which side you can hold the weapon in Quake2, dig it:
As Steed mentioned, we now have left handed weapons working visually, however there is still some work to be done on the part of John Cash to get it "really" working, i.e. shots coming from the left hand side of the player instead of always coming from the righthand side.
And yes, it works in software too.
Then we got Mr. Paul Steed over there having a bit of trouble with a current animation he is working on.. hehe, read this:
Its not quite midnight yet so sue me. ARRRGGGHH! Wine and animation do not mix. Ran out of beer so bring on the vino. All I'm trying to do is make some pod doors rise in a relatively short close-up. It lasts 200 hundred FUCKING frames and it is very, very simple. But this is becoming extremely arduous for all the wrong reasons. Doors up. Pods out. Readiness activation/position light ON. ZERO continuity (aka 'smooth') and all it has to do is FLOW. Is that so goddamn hard?
Does he seem upset?
HeadHunter Quake
Yet another update to the HeadHunter's Quake homepage, dig this, thanks Faustus:
"Wednesday, September 24th, 1997 - Headhunters V2.1 Server Info
Dropping a line to let everyone know the V2.1 server pak release is coming along nicely. The respawn bug in DcDm5 has been fixed, and heads have been given a larger pick-up radius in Quakeworld to help with lag, but not with Regular Quake, so Lan play is still challenging. Still can't say a definate release date, but the wait will be worth it!
QuArK
The work never seems to stop on QuArK, the Quake Army Knife. Version 3.92 has been released and available at the homepage for download if you are so inclined. There are a number of new features for you to play with in this version. (Vertex manipulation, better error logging, etc.)
Unreal Shots
Can't seem to find out exactly who mailed me about this one first. (Few different people, got filtered to all sorts of mailboxes.. hell if I know whats going on) but there are 6 new screenshots of Unreal available over at the GT page. (They be the dudes publishing Unreal)
My current plan is to compile all the screenshots I have of unreal, slap them together in a cycling slideshow in lview, and then I'll practically be playing Unreal. Have to cycle about 20-30 shots per second, but like.. I can play for at least 2 hours at that rate.
Jedi Knews
The OGR section on Jedi Knight has been updated again.. This game will rock your world. You better download this mofo the moment it hits the net, then go buy it from the store on the 9th when it's there as well. Then play it a whole lot and thank me for recommending this game to ya.
Hexen2
Your daily dose of Hexen2 information, on todays menu we have a review of Hexen2 done by the man Fargo of PlanetQuake fame, then you can check out the Entermedia review of Hexen2 as well.
George in the Hizouse
George Broussard has done a real good interview over at VooDoo Extreme. He talks about both Duke4 as well as the Prey project, interesting read.
Bubbah in the Hizouse
Bubbah has resurfaced over at PlanetQuake. (Bubbah's model page) and is now currently featuring a new model done by Guadian, the Borg model. check out the new digs at www.planetquake.com/epoch/bubbah/

Worldcraft Patch
The version 1.5a patch is out over at www.worldcraft.com Thanks to DMOS-Illusion for the word.
Here is Version 1.5a of Worldcraft, Shareware version.
MageSlayer Demo
It's out, a demo of MageSlayer. Check out Upaboveit's page for more info on just what MageSlayer is all about. Here are a couple of download sites, I'll have it here locally as soon as this damn ftp finishes:
Here is a description I grabbed from AVault:
The creators of HEXEN have sunk into the bowels of darkness and brought back a soul-destroying, top-down, 3D battle against the forces of Evil that leaves everything else weeping in its trail.
As one of four savage MageSlayers, you must quest to retrieve ancient relics through five separate worlds over 25 levels of hellish gameplay. Run, swim, climb and fly with six degrees of freedom. Scorch your enemies with a brutal armory of spells and weapons. Solve wicked environmental puzzles. From thesludge of the sewers to the frozen wastes of The Frost Stronghold, MAGESLAYER brings you the state-of-the-art in multiplayer massacres over LAN or internet.
WOW
I just checked out this Need For Speed 2 demo with 3dfx port (Requires DirectX), and It just blew me away.. the specular lighting, fog effects, and all that other great stuff is just amazing. I'm glad all of this stuff will be included in the next gen of 3d action games, cuz it rocks your world. It's a bit over 6megs.
Files Section
I'm looking to actually make my files section come alive with this groovy new connection at the office. I'll be posting stuff that I figure people will want there occasionally now that it is actually possible. :)
.plan Wagon
Doh! I had an entire listing of all the .plan updates and cut it out of this morning's updates on accident.. well here ya go, a few of the guys in the industry spouting off about one thing or another:
Telefragged Arena
Apparently the guys over at Telefragged were working on an Arena mod at the same time as the PlanetQuake guys, but couldnt get it done in time, so instead moved on to making an extension pack of PlanetQuake's RocketArena instead. I've got the pack here locally, and you can also check out the Telfragged Arena Homepage for more info.
YPOD Video
Check out this video of the Your Path of Destruction TC by Moxill Interactive. Just like Blue I thought the first TC to be coming out for Quake would be a Doom TC, but in fact this one is at what looks to be near the end of Quake's life.. (I'm assuming Quake2 will become the standard)
Btw.. was contemplating how clan matches will be in Quake2.. hm.. if they did balance out the weapons, It won't be so much of a territory game anymore. (Guarding the RL room) Should be interesting.
Half-Life Preview
Seems the excitement is building for this bad boy right now, Half-Life, Valve's own 3d game based on the Quake tech, but they have added 16bit color and skeletal model stuff among other things. (And some ass-kickin AI by Mr. Bond) Here is the preview by Hyper@ctive -Prophet.
Speaking of Half-Life, http://halflife.allgames.com has this image scanned in of the latest ads to be placed on the net by Sierra.
Shadow Warrior
Couple of more web sites have given their opinions on 3DRealms latest and greated 3D game based on the Build engine to be released, here they are:
Interviews
Seems to be a flood of these things going on lately.. Here are the latest and greatest:
Buzz Saw Gun
Saw this cute little gun patch on Blue's page, its a fairly fun new gun for Quake if you are into that sorta thing. Here is the file. (Hosted locally! Hot damn, T1's are wonderful) It replaces your grenade launcher.
Qoole Beans
More updates to Qoole over at www.qoole.com make sure and stop by to grab your latest version of this nifty Quake map editor.
.plan Wagon
Ack.. stayed up late again tonight.. Damn T1.. it's a curse! Quake Quake Quake, porn porn porn, Quake Quake Quake.. such is life.. it just keeps going.. John Carmack, lead programmer at id, updated his .plan file with the last modifications he is making to Quake2, and quite a cool one at that.. This simulates one of the advantages to portals (although not really portals) Check it:
Sept 24
A significant new feature for map development sneaked into Quake 2 this week.
It has allways been a problem with Quake that putting a door in front of a complex area didn't make the scene run any faster, unlike DOOM. In glquake, it actually made it significantly slower as you aproached the door, due to overdraw.
There was also the related problem that monsters heard sounds through doors even if they were closed.
This was because the primary culling mechanism used by Quake is the PVS -- the Potentially Visible Set. It only knew about anything that you could POTENTIALLY see from your current (rough) position. If a door might open, the PVS would allways contain everything that you could see even if the door was currently closed.
Quake 2 now has a way to allow you to lop off large amounts of the map irrespective of the PVS.
A map is now divided into "areas" by "areaportal" entities, usually in door frames.
If the area behind a door is not reachable by any open areaportals, then nothing from that area will be visible or hearable. This helps both rendering speed and network bandwidth. It also give the level designer an easy "band-aid" when they have designed an area that is too slow.
Note that the area-reachable test is strictly a topological flood fill, so if there is ANY route to the other side of a door open, you will still be processing the area behind the door, even if there is no real way you could see through the available route.
If your level has a reasonable number of doors, it will often run at a fair speed without any PVS information at all.
To use this feature, you create a thin "func_areaportal" entity that hides completely inside the door, then target the door at it. Qbsp3 does a bunch of work behind your back that you really don't want to know about. Doors have special logic in the game to open or close the areaportal at the apropriate time.
I chose not to make it an automatic feature of doors for a few reasons:
1) Teamed double or quad doors would not create a single portal across the entire doorway.
2) The areaportal entity can also be used for things like exploding walls. You can even put one just around a corner and trigger it with a field, but it is usually better to just let the PVS take care of corner bends.
3) Complex doors would have created complex (but invisible) area portal brushes, which would have messed up the bsp a bit.
PC Gamer
If you havent gone down to the store and checked out the latest issue of PC Gamer, here is your notice. Go get it.. there is extensive coverage and information about Quake2 in the issue, and some groovy ads in there as well. "Quake was just foreplay.." Gotta love that tag line.

Half-Life Demo Release
w00, word has gotten out that this hot title will be hitting a public demo release on the net around the middle of next month sometime, here is a quote from Jaspur's Half-Life page of Eddie Ranchigoda, marketing dude at Sierra.
Overall I'd like to say thank you for the amazing job you (as well as the owners of the other HL web ring sites) have done in maintaining news and hype for the game. I'm very excited to see everyone's enthusiasm for Half-Life and I know the game will not disappoint.
As to your demo question -- Yes there will be a playable demo (including deathmatch) available in mid October. This will be a 10MB downloadable file available on Sierra's site. We will also make it immediately available for posts on commercial sites such as Gamespot and fan sites such as yours. We will also have a CD version (30MB) which includes music tracks -- the CD demo will be available at Best Buy and Electronic Boutique stores, FREE, during Halloween week (Oct 27-31) or on gaming magazine CDs such as PC Gamer and CGW Dec and/or Jan issues.
eXtreme Tag
Just got this email from SB1, a member of eXtreme team I am guessing, here ya go:
I'm mailing you to tell you that eXtreme tag v0.8 has been released. This version is only for LAN and TCP/IP, but it gives you a taste of what is to come soon in the Quake World version. I would appreciate it if you would mention it at your page. The page URL is http://extreme.telefragged.com/
Wampey has left the Hizouse?
Ack! I'm not sure why they changed the name, but Wampey's Census page is now PlanetQuake's Poll page.. but still run by the same people. Maybe Fragmaster is helping out more or something.. I dunno.. but uh.. it's still a cool page,
Qoole Beans
We've got ourselves some updated beanage, this time Qoole has gotten nearly 40% faster! Check out the Qoole ass homepage at www.qoole.com and download Qoole version 2.05 made just for all you GL freaks. You need a 3d accelerator though for the GL version.. bummer. Thanks to the dark Monkey for the word.
Trade in that Rush
Wow.. well just a few hours after I get news that Zanshin advises people to hang on to their VooDoo Rush card because of new drivers on the way, a member of 3dfx has posted that they are willing to take trade ins of Rush VooDoo cards for the standard daughter cards for people who are not satisfied with the Rush. Check this post out done by Tony Tamasi, which is a statement made by 3dfx CEO Greg Ballard:
| ...Despite the award winning quality of the Voodoo
Rush based products, 3Dfx recognizes that some users are dissatisfied with their Voodoo
Rush based product. These users have expressed some disappointment over Voodoo Rushs
performance when running a small number of games that utilize alpha blending and
z-buffering concurrently, the most notable of which is glQuake. We regret that there are
any dissatisfied users, particularly if that dissatisfaction is based upon a
misunderstanding that Voodoo Rush would run all applications as fast as Voodoo Graphics.
Because 3Dfx is committed to customer satisfaction and delivering the best gaming
experience, we are offering current Voodoo Rush customers the opportunity to exchange
their Voodoo Rush daughtercards from their dual-planar Hercules Stingray 128 3D boards for
a 3D-only Voodoo Graphics board. For those that elect to participate in this offer, you
will retain the base Hercules board with the Alliance 2D controller, and will receive a
Voodoo Graphics based full screen 3D solution. This offer is available to current owners of Voodoo Rush based products, and is good through October 24, 1997. Simply send your Voodoo Rush based daughtercard to 3Dfx, and 3Dfx will ship you a Voodoo Graphics based board in return, no questions asked. If you would like to participate in this program, please send an email to customer_service@3dfx.com . We are currently working out the logistics and will send details to interested parties by 9/26/97.... |
Arena Quake Fever
Some people already know this, but I've been checking out Arena Quake quite a bit recently. (Ok so I spent like 3 hours on it last night) If you monkeys out there still havent downloaded and played this patch, you are missing out on the biggest thing since CTF. Hell I even convinced giggler to download it last night. (He's kinda slow, we try not to make fun of him much) and by the end of the night I could hear Mike screaming "Who's your daddy!?! Get outa my house!!! This is my arena!!" Or something like that. Check out the Arena Quake homepage over at PlanetQuake and grab your copy.
Rush News
The GL Quake Dojo, run by Zanshin the man has some updates talking about GLQuake on the VooDoo Rush cards, and the sky texture buggin the thing out:
I was just cornered by one of the Voodoo Rush product team people (sorry! don't remember names very well) at 3Dfx as I was dropping by to go out to dinner with Jack Matthews and a few other people; She asked me why I said what I said about the Rush.. My statement the other day was that RIGHT NOW with the current drivers I considered the Voodoo Rush to be unplayable for an enjoyable net game. What I then discovered was that they have some improvements to GLQuake and the drivers pending which will bring the performance to a very acceptable level. Maybe not as fast as Voodoo Graphics, but I think the Rush owners who stick it out will end up quite happy. (Triple buffering is neat, BTW.)
HexenWorld
Rick Johnson is hard at work on the QuakeWorld / HexenWorld port for Hexen2. He has asked for suggestions / comments in his latest .plan update, so well.. I bet you might have one or two things to suggest now wouldnt you?
9/22/97
If you can think of any simple features that are missing from quakeworld that you might want in hexen2world, now might be a good time to let me know (this does not include extern file support, as I don't have time to do that).
Walkthrough Mania
Ok.. if you just can't seem to get enough of the walkthroughs for Hexen2. (I know I can't get enough, I'm almost embarrased to tell you how excited these things get me.. *blush*) Check out www.hexenworld.com for the good stuff.
Shots
There are some new screenshots of the soon to be released level pack patch for Rocket Arena being released at the pit. That page also happens to be an Arena Quake Strategy Guide, be sure and read it a bit.
Visage
The only Quake .pak editor that I know of for the Macintosh, Visage, has been updated. Now all we need is to get that QuakeWorld port
Interviews
Got quite a few of these bad boys to read today, here is a list. Remember.. you can only read these interviews if you have been a good boy or girl.. I'll let you be the judge, have you been good?
Something goofy seems to have happened to my email.. so uh.. If you think you sent me something that merrited a reply and I didn't, You may want to send it again. Sorry.
Thanks..
Just wanna say thank you for everyone congratulating Ritual and myself on our assention into pr0nhood on the net with the spankin new T1 porn pipe. (It's sitting just a few feet away from me.. I can feel those .jpg's flowing in from the net onto Joel's machine) Oh yea... that new pipe is the reason I was a bit late with the update today.. lost track of time last night smacking some girl around in Quake. (Ok, so she beat me a few times, but I'm just nice.. yea..)
|
The Porn Pipe Has Arrived!
Hell yea.. spent most of today working on getting the T1 to cooperate with our network here at the office, and all is good. Make sure and keep a look out for the Ritual puds on the Quakeworld servers out there.. Some loss of productivity is to be expected for the next couple of days. :)

Quake2 Exclusive for PC Gamer?
Wow.. if this was true that could be one hell of a coup for PC Gamer in the industry.. Check this out, blatently ripped from the VooDoo boys:
According to that good 'ol Mr. Blonde PC Gamer (UK) have announced that they have snapped up the rights to the Quake II demo for their cover disc on the November edition. Mr. Blonde is NEVER wrong so I'd believe all the hype if I were you.
Kevin Cloud's response: (An artists over at id Software, and project leader of Quake2)
"As for the demo, we have not given PC Gamer UK an exclusive on the Quake II demo. Further, we have no plans to give any publication an exclusive. This is probably a miscommunication that will be cleared up soon."
Thanksto Blue's News for the word.. So uh.. guess not eh?
Hexen2 - Cheats
Version 1.0 of the Hexen2 cheat stopper has been released, here is the email I got from Phayyde concerning the patch:
As it turns out, a sharp person named Darcy Boese pointed out that the version 0.9 NoCreate allowed use of the Cosmos cheat. I checked the code and, sure enough, it was there. The Cosmos cheat had been embedded in Eman's code base. Since I used his code base, NoCreate "inherited" the Cosmos cheat. I have fixed this for version 1.0.
Hexen2 Review
Speaking of Hexen2, Next-Gen has posted their own impressions of the full version of Hexen2. -Prophet.
Zanshin
Mr. Zanshin dude has an update to his page talking about the new Quantum 3D card to be released that will double GLQuake framerates apparently. This is not a VooDoo2 3dfx card though, but a card based on what the Obsidian cards that have been produced for a while now already using the original VooDoo graphics chip.
Epic Interview
The Shadows page, dedicated to Unreal news has an interview with Myshca, (who we all so fondly remember as the guy who made some interesting accusations a while back in his .plan file) Here is one of the more interesting quotes from the interview:
How much does attention to detail matter to you?
A hell of alot. I spend Weeks adding little details so the player can stand still and see everything as it should be if he were really there... I also spend hours on Texture alignment..The good thing is I'm really fast. I can crank out 800 fully aligned brushes in a day. I usually stop around 400 and go back and add additional spaces and looping connection. I actually play the maps in my mind while I edited them. I image what players of varying skill levels would do here or there then I emulate challenges for them tailored to their abilities....Nothing way too hard, but nothing way to easy....
My Script
Ok.. this was a little expirement I tried a couple of weeks ago and I've found that it actually does pay off. I modified the good ol' Quick Rocket alias that some people use to a Quick grenade instead. My reasoning? Uh.. usually when you have a rocket launcher you stick with it unless you have the shaft and quad.. but everyone loves to fire off a few grenades if retreating then switch right back to their weapon of choice, so here it is, the alias I use. Note, It is bound to button2 of your mouse because well, thats what I use.
alias gren1 "impulse 6 ; +attack ; wait; impulse 1 ; -attack"
alias gren2 "impulse 6 ; +attack ; wait; impulse 2 ; -attack"
alias gren3 "impulse 6 ; +attack ; wait; impulse 3 ; -attack"
alias gren4 "impulse 6 ; +attack ; wait; impulse 4 ; -attack"
alias gren5 "impulse 6 ; +attack ; wait; impulse 5 ; -attack"
alias gren6 "impulse 6 ; +attack ; wait; impulse 6 ; -attack"
alias gren7 "impulse 6 ; +attack ; wait; impulse 7 ; -attack"
alias gren8 "impulse 6 ; +attack ; wait; impulse 8 ; -attack"
alias at01 "impulse 1 ; bind mouse2 gren1"
alias at02 "impulse 2 ; bind mouse2 gren2"
alias at03 "impulse 3 ; bind mouse2 gren3"
alias at04 "impulse 4 ; bind mouse2 gren4"
alias at05 "impulse 5 ; bind mouse2 gren5"
alias at06 "impulse 6 ; bind mouse2 gren6"
alias at07 "impulse 7 ; bind mouse2 gren7"
alias at08 "impulse 8 ; bind mouse2 gren8"
bind 1 "at01"
bind 2 "at02"
bind 3 "at03"
bind 4 "at04"
bind 5 "at05"
bind 6 "at06"
bind 7 "at07"
bind 8 "at08"
bind r "at07"
bind f "at08"
All you need to do is choose the key you wish to use and replace the "mouse2" with that key in the script. then place this in your autoexec.cfg in the various subdirectories of the -game patches that you wish to use it with. (ID1 and QW most likely) Hope you guys enjoy the script. I've found it to be quite useful.
